18 hours?!

Well - it's that time of the year to register for the best event on campus in it's 11th year!

As you'll notice, we made a major change. We are no longer a 28 hour dance marathon, but an 18 hour one.

Though it was a difficult switch to make - after 10 years of running tradition - CUDM steering 2011 has decided to innovate! Remembering our main mission of raising as much awareness, as many funds, and include as many participants as possible, we knew we'd have to make a change to double our numbers.

We are hoping that this change will encourage you (whether a novice or veteran participant) to join us for CUDM 2011 in Lerner Party Space on Saturday, January 29, 2011 - Sunday, January 30, 2011.

Please email us at cudmsteering@columbia.edu with any questions.

CUDM 2010 has come to its end

Thank you so much to everyone that came and supported CUDM 2010. It was a fantastic Marathon with an endless list of unforgettable memories. We raised over $47,000 for The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (www.pedaids.org)!

Photos and videos will be posted up soon.

Thank you to all the performers, sponsors, dancers, moralers, friends, family, EGPAF representatives, NY EGPAF Family Ambassadors, DJ's, and everybody else who contributed to the success of this year's Dance Marathon.

CUDM: LAST HOUR.

Dear Internets,

It's here. The final hour. We are 40 minutes away from completing this. all 28 hours. all incredible. all unforgettable. all worth it.

We just had the boys and girls basketball team members come support us and learn the line dance with us. But now it's back to just us--as it was in the beginning, tis in the end. All the dancers, moralers, and friends together in the Party Space. We are significantly sweatier than when we started...more tired than when we started...but so much more fulfilled, as well.

Another big circle, shoulder to shoulder hugging session to Jason Mraz' "I'm Yours" materialized. Beautiful

See you all on the flip side.

FTK!!!!

P.S. - King and Queen of CUDM are about to be announced!!!!

CUDM: hour eight

Dear internets,

HOUR EIGHT. IT'S HOT IN HERE. WE ARE SWEATY. CURRENTLY IT'S BAR MITZVAH HOUR (ALSO KNOWN AS THE CRAZIEST HOUR OF CUDM). People danced in spinning circles, people got lifted in chairs in the middle, dancers swung each other around in pairs, AND we just played an uber intense round of Coke & Pepsi. Utter camaraderie.

Thus far:

- CU Bangra performed a fantastic HIGH-energy routine.

- CU Belly Dance wooed the pants off our guy dancers...

- ORCHESIS DISCO PIECE. They're shirts were like shiny, reflective disco balls. But in shirt shapes. Incredible dancing.

- During the GREEK HOUR, our three colored teams participated in the Recycled Materials TOGA Contest.
- Yellow Team: themed a "300"-esque Spartan toga.
- Red Team: A melee of bandanas, pompoms, bubble wrap, and red table cloth. Also decorated with a green "pedestal" (laundry hamper)
- Blue Team (WINNER): A menagerie of blue cloths with a theme of teamwork, universality, and cooperation amongst all color teams.

P.S. - We had Julianne Corman and Christina Sok (two graduated Steering Committee members judge!)

- Bar Mitzvah Hour hosted by Hillel is coming to an end. Sir Mix alot blasts the stereos now...

in the coming hours, we look forward to:

- CU KINGSMEN. The rowdiest bunch of classy, straight-laced a cappella gentlemen you'll ever hear.
- LIP-SYNC COMPETITION.
- CLUB CUDM (10 p.m. to 4 a.m.). This is where the party goes from hot & crazy to burning & ludicrous. You don't want to miss the biggest and baddest club of the year.

Tickets will always be available for purchase at the Lerner Ticket Booth!

Thank you for your support!!!

Veronica' supportive kick ass mom

I am so proud of my daughter Veronica and all of her friends at Barnard College and Columbia University that are dancing today and through the night to support the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Foundation. You should see them, what a blast, they even have me up on the floor as a "Moraler" dancing with them. I feel like a kid myself, saving children's lives. Join in, you'll be glad you did.

Caitlin Dean (Red)

Hey!! 6.5 hours in and we are still dancing like crazy. We have had amazing performances by Dhoom and CU Bellydance most recently. Lots of disco music is playing and a Lip sync contest was just announced. This is my first time dancing in the Dance Marathon and so far it has been an amazing experience! Come visit! I am super excited for the rest of it!

Robert Brennan

Starting to get tired...and I think we've still got a good 20 or so hours to go. At least I'll have time to beat Mike Wymbs in Connect 4.

Sherill Marie Henriquez (Yellow)

Hellooooo world!
We've been dancing underground for I don't know how long....No really, I don't know; they took away our watches! Shout out to my fellow CUE-ers, thank you to everyone who contributed to the cause - and sorry to those who aren't here. YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON THE LONGEST PARTY SINCE ZEUS AND HERA'S WEDDING!!!!

Go Bananas!

Zak Dytchwald (Yellow)

Hey World! We have reached and passed the four hour mark! Though that might seem insignificant to you, that means we only have on full day left, and a day is a way easier goal than the random 28 hour goal.

Here is how I envision it:

We have on day left, which is only one day out of the 365 that make up a year. What's more is that I am nineteen--almost twenty-- years old. That means I've already lived almost a billion days, so one day out of a billion really isn't much.

The point is, I'm in it for the long hall and everyone seems to have the same mentality. Well, strike that, Spice Girls just came on. Some seem disheartened; most still enthusiastic.

Thanks for the support everyone.

COME VISIT

Yours truly,
Zak

CUDM: hour four

Dear internets,

We have come 1/7 of the way through our Marathon. Yesssssssss.
Thus far:

- Learned the Line Dance. Our song of CUDM 10 is "This Is Your Night" by Amber. If you hear that tune pumpin', your feet better be stompin'.

- Columbia's own Morningside Collective performed a kick-ass set for us! Amongst their many original pieces of jazz-infused piano alternative rock, they ended with an energetic encore of "I Want You Back".

-Our three color teams (Red, Blue, and Yellow) gathered to create each of our cheers. After a ten-minute prep, the teams presented them to a panel of non-dancer judges.........AND THE YELLOW TEAM WON. AHAAAAAAAAAA!

- Currently, CU Swing is teaching us all how to move our hips like professional "swingers".

AND WE'RE STILL GOING STRONG!!!!

Come support our dancers as we dance through the night!

Events to come (up 'til 6 p.m.):

-CU Ballroom Dance
-CU Bhangra
-CU Belly Dance
-CU Dhoom

Dance marathon is going on!!!! This morning, I woke up and it was like "Jeez...am I really going to dance for this next 28 hours???"But now, standing here, I know I'm going to have so much fun and really enjoy myself for this super long dance party!!! The march from John Jay to Lerner was totally spirit-lifting and drove away the last single bit of sleepiness on a Saturday morning. And it was not a lie, Nigel Barker was here and signed my DVD! Soon, the real party started! Music was AMAZING and everyone was enjoying themselves to the best! I met so many cool people and sweat quite a lot already! But the party is going and I'm gonna head back to DANCE now! :)

Dance Marathon is here.

Dancers will be updating this blog every hour detailing the events of the marathon! Stay tuned!
